Review: Meet Epix Mega 1 Tablet

Epix Mega 1 Tablet Review

We just got our hands on this cute Epix Mega 1 tablet that runs on the Windows OS. It’s as close to a PC as a tablet can get since the Windows OS on it works exactly the same way as it would on a PC. With features that enable a seamless transition from working on a PC to working on a tablet, I would say it is an ideal device for board room meetings.
Check out what’s in the box first before we walk you through the detail of the device. See unboxing below:

Design

The body of this 8 inch device is made of aluminum. It has a smooth feel and weighs 339grams. The manufacturers have equally added that the design makes it extremely durable.

Display

The Epix mega1 tablet has an IPS panel display with a screen resolution of 1280×800 which is fair in terms of the picture quality, for videos and other multimedia files

Camera

Everyone certainly loves a device that has a good camera quality. Unfortunately, the camera on the Epix Mega 1 wouldn’t be winning any awards in that respect. But for a tablet, it comes in handy with 5MP for the back camera. With that, you can take pictures when it becomes completely necessary. It also doesn’t deprive you of your selfies as it has a 2MP front camera. Note that under low light conditions, pictures taken with the Epix Mega 1 are not fantastic.

Features and Software

The Epix Mega 1 is powered by an Intel Quad core processor and runs on the Windows 8.1 OS. For those who have been using this OS on their PCs, there shouldn’t be any problems operating the Epix Mega 1.

Memory

With 1GB RAM, fluid operation of apps on the Epix Mega 1 is expected. It also comes with a 16GB internal memory which can be expanded to 64GB using an external micro SD card. Hence this device is adequate for use as a storage device for all the documents and files that you need on the go.

Battery Life

With an inbuilt battery of 4400mAH, the Epix Mega 1 will give about 2 days of average use on a full battery charge before its power runs out. However, heavier usage cuts down the battery life to about one day.

Connectivity

It comes with the 3G network and you have the option of using the device over Wi-Fi networks. It also has the Bluetooth option for sending and receiving files from other users.

Extras

Anything that makes me spend less on accessories for my gadgets makes me excited. So I was impressed with the added Epix Mega 1 flip case. Another bonus is the one year warranty. For me the best part of the Epix Mega 1 tablet is the pre-installed Office 365 package that includes a one year free subscription.

The Epix Mega 1 is available for purchase on Jumia and Konga and some stores in Computer Village should have it in stock.

Though the device isn’t camera friendly for those of us who can’t do without pictures, I will still recommend it for business purposes or simply as a storage device. So, if you have a meeting to attend, particularly for the ladies, and you just need something that fits into your handbag without occupying so much space, I recommend the Epix Mega 1 tablet.
