Apple Vs Samsung: Court Stops Samsung From Selling Some Devices
The legal battle between Apple and Samsung isn’t over yet. Last year, Apple requested $180 million more from Samsung and the case is still in court. At the moment, Apple has won another legal battle and the injunction stops Samsung from selling certain devices in the US. However, these are not newer devices, they are actually old Samsung phones no one buys anymore.
This is from a 2014 ruling that found Samsung infringing on several Apple patents. The court already ruled that Samsung owed Apple $119.6 million in damages. The injunction also prevents Samsung from selling the following devices within the US:
Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Note 2
Galaxy S2
Galaxy S2 Epic 4G Touch
Galaxy S2 Skyrocket
Galaxy S3
Other devices are the Admire and Stratosphere. These are actually old devices and Samsung doesn’t have much to lose. According to CNet, US District Judge Lucy Koh said in her ruling:
The court finds that Apple will suffer irreparable harm if Samsung continues to use its use of the infringing features, that monetary damages cannot adequately compensate Apple for this resulting irreparable harm, and that the balance of equities and public interest favor entry of a permanent injunction.
Although these two companies are good business partners, the legal battle between make them look like eternal adversaries. Samsung doesn’t seem too happy with the ruling. In a press release on it official website, Samsung said:
To protect the future of innovation, design patent laws must be interpreted in a way that makes sense for modern products. Design patents must not be given too broad a scope and damages must not be windfalls vastly out of proportion to the contribution of the patented design. If the legal precedent in this case stands, the consequences could be dire for the advancement of industry, innovation and science. We are asking companies of all sizes in all industries to join us with their support.
Several companies have supported Samsung in its battle against Apple including eBay, Facebook, Google and Hewlett-Packard.
