Airtel Set To Pay 5 Million Naira Law Suit To A Customer For Violation of Privacy Via Unsolicited SMS and Call

The rate network operators in Nigeria like Airtel, MTN, Etisalat and others are sending and calling there customers with Unsolicited SMS and Call is getting out of hand.
Recently, i listened to a recorded call from an Airtel customer, who call Airtel NG customer care help line and ask them for a place were he can buy a bag of rice for a cheaper amount.

The Customer Care Help person was surprised were and the customer did that just to show the network operator the rate inwhich they have been disturbing him with Unsolicited SMS and Calls as the customer lamented.

With this should a say the "Do Not Disturb Me" Mode Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) introduced is more like a waist of time? Because when this mode is activated you might even miss an important SMS from a person but will continue receiving Unsolicited SMS and Call from your service providers like Airtel, MTN, Etisalat and others.

21st of Last year December,
  • Mr Emmanuel Anene filed a suit against Airtel for continues disturbances through unsolicited messages to his line … Claiming 200 Million Naira damages.
Airtel Nigeria did not respond to the plaintiff’s suit (instead, they were busy disturbing other people with unsolicited calls and SMS). The court, therefore awarded the sum of 5 million Naira to the plaintiff instead of the 200 Million Naira he claimed to be the damages.

The Reverse is the case, they are now using a pop up message that will appear in your phone screen waiting for you to press the OK Button, if you mistakenly click press or tap the OK button, 50 Naira will be deducted from your account weekly.

Nov 2nd 2016, the court ruled that
The defendant has been directed to pay to the plaintiff damages not the N200 million the plaintiff asked for but N5 million only.
What are you waiting for to sue Airtel, MTN, Etisalat and others for every unsolicited SMS and Call.
