Google Shuts Down Android Nearby Notification

Three years ago, Google started development of Android Nearby Notifications. On paper, this new feature would be incredibly helpful for people visiting new places, as Android would instantly notify you of interesting information about wherever you happened to be at the time.

However, the app has been drastically filled with irrelevant spammy information – due to that , Google is shutting it down.

“Our goal was to bring relevant and engaging content to users – to provide useful information proactively,” Google said.
“However, earlier this year, we noticed a significant increase in locally irrelevant and spammy notifications that were leading to a poor user experience.”

Google will shut down Android Nearby Notifications on 6 December 2018, after which users will stop receiving them altogether.
