Ibadan, Oyo State. October 11, 2011. The importance of the location and date may have slipped from consciousness, but the occasion was one that announced a sea change in the Nigerian broadcast industry. It was the launch of GOtv, the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) service provider, in the country. Why Ibadan? The Oyo State capital had, in 1959, given the country and indeed, the African continent, its first television station in the shape of the Western Nigeria Television (WNTV).

It was, thus, a case of television-in its most modern incarnation- coming home. GOtv’s promise at birth was simple: to provide “a low cost-digital television service, offering the greatest selection of local channels, made in Africa for Africans as well as the best international channel”.

A new channel is coming to GOtv; Select 5 (ch 36).
Select 5 will be the home of Serie A. The channel goes live on 18 October 2018.
This means those who pay for GOtv Plus will also have access to Select 5 (ch 36) during the GOtv open week anniversary (between 19-26 October).

GOtv has four bouquets;
  1. GOtv MAX for N3200 monthly with over 69 channels.
  2. GOtv Plus bouquet which goes for N1900 monthly with over 64 channels.
  3. GOtv Value for N1350 with over 43 channels and
  4. GOtv Lite for N400 with 24 channels.
The hardware (Decoder + GOtenna + One Month's GOtv Max Subscription) sold for N6,900.
