How to Take Screenshots on an iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max

We all know that the new iPhones (XR, XS, and XS Max.) from Apple was launched with no Home button. In regards to this, Apple had to change the way to handle some relatively common tasks. One of those is taking a screenshot, and the same method has carried over to the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max.

Taking a screenshot on an iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max is the same combination of button presses no matter which device you own.

How to Take Screenshots on an iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max (Pressing Power/Slide Button & Volume up)

Similarly to previous iPhones, the process requires pressing two buttons simultaneously. This time those buttons are the Side button and the Volume Up button. The Side button is the same button you use when sleeping or waking your device; we highlighted both buttons below.

1. Swipe or navigate to the page or screen display you want to screenshot.
2. Press and hold down the ‘Power button’, located at the top right hand of your iPhone.
3. While still holding down the “Power button”, click and hold the “volume-increase” button, which is on the left-hand side of your device.
4. This will automatically take your screenshot. The action is accompanied by a ‘click’ sound and a ‘screen flash’.
5. Your screenshot is automatically saved under “Gallery” on your iPhone X, XS, XS Max or XR.
6. The screenshot will remain on your screen display for a few seconds before it eventual vanishes (you can also dismiss it once the screenshot has been taken and saved).

The positioning of the two buttons used for taking a screenshot has an upside and a downside. On the upside, it’s much easier to take a screenshot one-handed now that you don’t have to press the Home and Side buttons together. On the downside (and it’s not that big a downside), it easy to take a screenshot accidentally if you hit those buttons while just holding your phone.

How to Take Screenshots on an iPhone X, XR, XS, and XS Max (Assistive Touch Method)

1. Navigate to the ‘Settings’ on your iPhone and select “General”.
2. On the displayed options, tap on “Accessibility”.
3. Turn on the “Accessibility” option. This will create a floating button which can be moved anywhere on your screen.
4. On the screen, you want to screenshot, tap on the floating button (Assistive touch shortcut).
5. Click on “Device” and select “More”.
6. This will bring up the “Screenshot” option. Click on it.
7. Your screenshot will be taken and subsequently saved.
