Beware of New Android Malware Posing as “System Update”, it Can Steal Your Data

All the Android phone users, beware of new malware, as it is coming in the form of “System Update“. This malware can steal your data, messages, photos, and more. The researchers at mobile security firm Zimperium zLabs found out the new malware.
This Latest Malware can Record Phone Calls, Browser History, & Control over Full Android Device

According to the researchers, the new “advanced” malware can also take full control over your Android phone. After taking control, the attackers can record audio, phone calls, view browser history, access Whatsapp messages, and more. In a blog post, the researchers explained that hackers can remotely execute commands and can execute different types of malicious actions once they take control of the system. The bug comes with an Android app called “System Update” which should be installed out of Google Play.

The CEO of Zimperium Shridhar Mittal told, the Malware was a part of a targeted attack. More, he added,

“It is easily the most sophisticated we’ve seen. I think a lot of time and effort was spent on creating this app. We believe that there are other apps out there like this, and we are trying our very best to find them as soon as possible.”

After the user installs the malware from a third-party store, the hacker can use the smartphone remotely. All the data is collected and organized into different folders in the spyware’s storage. Moreover, “System Update” can also create a malicious notification that looks to be a legal software update alert.

In a blog post, it is said,

“Apart from the various types of personal data stolen from the victim, the spyware wants more private data such as the victim’s bookmarks and search history from popular browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and the Samsung Internet Browser.”

As this file should be downloaded outside from Google Play Store, you should be aware of it and do not download, if you want to be safe. Even, if it shows you legal notification do not fall for it. As the official downloads are always done via the official Google Play Store. So, if you have got this “System Update” notification, just ignore it, if you want to save your data.
