How to Reset to Stock or Unbrick Sony Xperia Devices
Whether you need to update your phone to the latest software release from Sony, or your phone has stopped working, or even if you’ve bricked your phone. This guide is your rescue which covers all the steps to reinstall the Stock Sony Rom into your phone and breath new life into it.
How To Unlock Bootloader:
Although you do not need to unlock your bootloader for this process, it is a custom to do so just to be safe. It is still up to you.
Warning: Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your DRM partition and OEM function like the Sony image processing and Bravia Engine won’t work. Me? I didn’t really care because I didn’t see much of a difference.
Backup
It is highly recommended that you always have a backup stored somewhere safe for instances like this because this process will wipe your data.
Things You Will Need:
First thing’s first. Download and Install the latest spflashtool from the linkprovided above and setup necessary drivers.

Things You Will Need:
- A Sony Smartphone with a Locked or Unlocked Bootloader
- SPFLASHTOOL Link
- Working USB drivers
- Relative Firmware for your device. Can be downloaded from FLASHTOOL
First thing’s first. Download and Install the latest spflashtool from the linkprovided above and setup necessary drivers.
Download Required Firmware
- Step 1: Open spflashtool and wait for the process to finish. Then click on XF button to open Xpirifirm.
- Step 2: Find your device and select relevant model. Now select you desired Customized Region for example Customized UK and download the availableFirmware.
- Step 3: After the download is done you should let it unpack. This might take a while.
- Step 4: Close Xpirifirm.
How To Unlock the Bootloader:
Warning: This Process will void your warranty.
- Step 1: Click on the BLU button and connect your device in flashmode. In order to do so follow the onscreen instructions to connect to flashmode.
- Step 2: Copy the IMEI number.
- Step 3: Go to Sony unlockbootloader webpage Link. Select your device and click continue.
- Step 4: Enter your email address and accept the agreement and continue.
- Step 5: You should receive an email from sony with the link to next process.
- Step 6: Open the link and enter your IMEI and check the relevant checkboxes and click Submit.
- Step 7: Copy the Unlock code and paste it into spflashtool and click Unlock.
How To Install the ROM
- Step 1: Open Flash tool and click on that lightning button.
- Step 2: Select Flashmode and select your firmware. You should see something like this.
- Step 3: In MiscTAExclude , Exclude SIMLOCK.ta, Cust-reset.ta and OSV restrictions.ta if any.
- Step 4: Select Wipe Apps_log and userdata. This action will wipe all your data.
- Step 5: Click Flash and wait for flashtool to prepare for the process. This might take a while.
- Step 6: At this point you should see on screen instructions to connect to flashmode. Do so and let flashtool do its thing.If it asks you to select FSD click yes and you’re all set.
- Step 7: When done reboot your phone and enjoy the latest release of Sony Rom. If your phone was bricked it’s fixed now.
