MTN Has Finally Launched its 4G Network For Every One in Nigeria

MTN 4G network has been around for awhile but only available to Visaphone customers in Lagos and Abuja who migrated to MTN after the MTN acquisition of Visaphone. Are you surprised? its no longer news that MTN has acquire Visaphone in other for them to boost and expand its network coverage.


MTN has finally announce the launch of their 4G network to all of its customers in Nigeria. This MTN 4G network works for only compatible sim cards only, to check if your sim card is compatible, text “4G” to 131 and you will receive a text message response telling you if your sim or phone is compatible with the 4G network. If your mobile phone is not compatible then you will need to change your mobile phone to a supported 4G smart phone while if your sim card is not compartible you will need to do a sim swap to switch your line to a sim that is 4G-ready. This sim cards are called token sim cards because it can not store phone numbers (Contact).

MTN in regards to the 4G network launch said:

inline with our efforts to deepen the growth and rollout of broadband across Nigeria, we are excited to announce that MTN’s 4G service is now available in Lagos and Abuja (with other locations coming soon).
Check if your location now has MTN 4G network because its now in Port Harcourt.
