Researchers Said ‘Go Keyboard’ Application is Spying on You

Go Keyboard It’s a popular keyboard application with over 100 million downloads. However, security researchers from Adguard claim that the app is spying on users. And by spying, I mean, transmitting personal information about users back to its remote server, making worrying connections, as well as “using a prohibited technique to download dangerous executable code.”

In the app description, the developers say:

Privacy and Security

We will never collect your personal info including credit card information. In fact, we cares for privacy of what you type and who you type!

However, according to AdGuard, the Go Keyboard application does the opposite:

According to the researchers;

Without explicit user consent, the GO keyboard reports to its servers your Google account email in addition to language, IMSI, location, network type, screen size, Android version and build, device model, etc.

Some of the ‘Go Keyboard’ Application downloaded plugins are marked as Adware or PUP by multiple AV engines.

The truth is, most third-party keyboard applications are keyloggers and what keyboard applications do with the data you type (These include banking information and passwords) depends on their privacy policies. Some developers just analyze the data of their users in bulk and then use the information to either create new features or fix any issues, but not all keyboard developers stop there. And even if they don’t plan to monetize the data gleaned, hackers could break in and steal user information.

So, if you are serious about privacy, then you must figure out how these keyboard applications make money. If you can’t figure it out, maybe you are what they are monetizing.
